As we move forward in 2010, if things go as planned, the readership of this site will increase dramatically. One of the things that needs to be addressed is the comments section. I’d like to let all of our readers know where I stand in regards to them. The below things won’t apply to most of you, as we have a very savvy audience.
1. Comments are awesome! The more the better!
I LOVE hearing from the people who read what gets written and posted. It adds new perspectives, ideas, and opinions to the discussion. If you have something you want to say, you’re more than welcome to do so.
2. Spam gets das Boot!
I hate spam just as much as you do, maybe even more. I have Akismet in place, which gets 90% of it, but not all. If it looks, talks, and smells like spam it’s gone. I give it de stiefel!
3. Real, value adding, links are actively encouraged.
If you’ve got a relevant link, post it in the comment. We appreciate the added ideas, and perspectives.
4. Spam links will be also given das boot.
If you have a great comment, and the links are blatantly spammy, the comment will be edited to take the links out.
5. Gravatars are encouraged.
It helps put a face with a name, and builds community. I need to do this myself, haha. Although, you do have a recent pic of me on the About page. If you haven’t been to Gravatar yet, please do so!
6. Please don’t put your URL in the comment text, and please use YOUR name or initials, not your business name.
This looks like spam, so please don’t.
7. Criticism is ok, being rude isin’t
Trolls not welcome here. Disagreeing is welcome. We all dont think the same, or see things the same way. Flaming others, or outright socially disrespectful behavior will be addressed with utmost haste.
Above all, I want this to be a great place for information, and community. I know 98% of our audience will be completely cool, and none of us have to worry about them. Then there’s 2% yahoos, who bring down the entire conversation. That being said, comment away!
(Thanks to both ProBlogger, and Tim Ferriss for the above format. I’m indebted to you both.)
